Massive Developments Earmarked for Canberra

Real estate investors may be interested in buying real estate in Canberra after ACT chief minister Katy Gallagher announced two different developments to see the heart of the city transformed.

'The City Plan' and 'City to the Lake' projects were unveiled by Ms Gallagher, minister for economic development Andrew Barr, and minister for environment and sustainable development Simon Corbell at the National Museum of Australia.

Ms Gallagher explained that the area is looking to the next century as they celebrate the Canberra's centenary, with the city centre crucial to that expansion.

"The City Plan will provide a blueprint for future infrastructure development, land release and incentives for redevelopment right across the city," she said.

"It will guide our decision-making on what facilities and infrastructure are needed, where these should be located, and what should be the appropriate mix of land use."

With the City to Lake project, the city will be extended towards the lake and encompass a new convention centre, cultural facilities, rectangular sports stadium, an aquatic facility and creating a seamless link between West Basis and Civic.

Canberrans have been urged to submit their feedback on the issue, with community consultation crucial to the government's future planning.
