Looking for a great family event for Australia Day?

Grass Roots Bull Riding is back for Australia Day 2014 after an action-packed inaugural event on Australia Day in 2013.

Last year, despite the occurrence of Cyclone Oswald, some 40 local businesses and 2000 locals came together in Brisbane’s Redland Bay area to watch 60 cowboys compete in a bull riding competition.

Run by Ray White Redland Bay, the event brings the local community together to enjoy a day full of thrills, spills and bull riding action with a carnival sideshow for the whole family to enjoy.

Event organiser and Ray White Redland Bay principal Jesse James says the  event has been created to showcase the skills and raw ability of cowboys in Australia as well as bring the community together.

“We have created an event where people can afford to take their family for a great day out with a minimal expense to their pocket,” Mr James said.

Sponsored by local businesses, Jesse says it’s an event to say thanks to the community for supporting them and to make them feel proud about where they live.

The funds raised support an important local not-for-profit organisation.

“The Cage Youth Foundation – who take the troubled youth of our communities in and provide a better environment for them and their families through rehabilitation and retraining programs – is a fitting recipient of the funds raised on the day.”

The broader ethos behind the event is simple.

“Be proud of who you are and where you came from or where you’re headed and what you want to become,” Mr James says.
