Former state Treasurer selling penthouse

FORMER Queensland Treasurer Keith DeLacy is selling his luxury inner city Brisbane penthouse through Ray White Ascot.

His family home in Redlynch, Cairns, is also for sale.

Keith and Yvonne DeLacy have owned the penthouse at 903/229 Queen Street, Brisbane in the iconic MacArthur Chambers building right in the heart of the CBD for almost nine years.

But the true blue Queenslanders aren’t going far and their next address will still be in Brisbane.

Mr DeLacy said the decision had been made to sell both the family home of 40 years, and their Brisbane penthouse, to consolidate in Brisbane.

“Most of my business activities are in Brisbane but the decision to consolidate it’s a very big and traumatic one for us,” said the 76-year-old former Treasurer.

“We love it in Cairns, I was born there so it was a very big decision for us. We feel like we have a moral obligation to go through all our personal effects and mementos and not leave it to our three kids to sort out. The only way we would ever do that is by moving on,” he said.

“The apartment in Brisbane is perfect for an executive. I hold a lot meetings there as I’m still involved in companies, particularly agricultural start-ups.”

Mr DeLacy was the member for Cairns between 1983 and 1998, and Queensland Treasurer from 1989 to 1996.

“We’ll be downsizing but it’ll be inside postcode 4000. I love the CBD, I have two carparks in MacArthur Chambers but I walk everywhere and don’t even have a car in Brisbane,” he said.

“It’s such a lovely old heritage building in a prime location with Woollies and Apple in the same building, plus BWS to get the booze and Priceline to get the remedy.”

Ray White Ascot elite agent Ian Cuneo agreed this penthouse was in a prime location in an iconic building.

“Wow, what a location! You enter via Edward Street in the heart of the city. The iconic MacArthur Chambers building has retained the elegance and charm of a bygone era with its sandstone exterior,” Mr Cuneo said.

“This 239sq m penthouse is perfectly positioned to enjoy all the benefits of living in the heart of Queensland’s capital city and even better on Queen Street.

“This apartment with ideal northerly aspect provides the perfect combination of opulence along with the convenience of city living. Walk to your business meetings during the day and entertain either in one of many restaurants in the evening this is convenience plus.

“We have been given clear instructions to sell, so be quick for this magnificent residence. This is truly in the heart of the heart of Brisbane CBD. “
