Whether you're about to settle down and have a couple of kids or you're relocating your family to some place new, there is bound to be a checklist of features you've got in mind.

Some of these might just include safety, schools, sports fields and family amenities – all of which you'll find in the waterside suburb of West Lakes.

Approximately 14 kilometres north west from the city of Adelaide, West Lakes makes a prime location for families of all types.

Perfect for the sporty type

Any family that loves sports and the outdoors is sure to fit in seamlessly into the West Lakes community. The suburbs that lie outside the city of Adelaide are known to be home to Aussie rules football, and West Lakes even has its own stadium – AAMI Stadium.

Check out the schedule of events throughout the year to see if any local teams are playing a home game – it definitely makes a great day of family fun.

If footy isn't your flavour, West Lakes also has a bunch of golf courses throughout the town. The Grange Golf Club is a popular choice among locals and it even brings in its fair share of visitors from the rest of the state and the country. There's also the Royal Adelaide Golf Club in the southern end of the suburb, and you'll find West Lakes Golf Club overlooking the Boating River.

Convenient for commuters

As West Lakes is only a short 14 kilometres outside of Adelaide city, getting to work and back home again is a breeze. West Lakes is also very well serviced by transport networks. The A7 highway is just down the road, and will get you straight to the city. Otherwise, hop on a train or a bus and you'll get to the city easily.

Family focused

West Lakes has many wide open spaces where families can enjoy a range of activities. From a simple stroll on one of the walking tracks alongside the beach or a day out at the mall, there's endless things to do.

The suburb also boasts its own primary school and kindergarten, while nearby suburbs of Seaton and St Clair have their own high schools. It doesn't matter which end of West Lakes you choose to find a home in, your kids won't be too far from quality education.
