Aussie surfing legend Sally Fitzgibbons’ south coast sanctuary hits the market

Australian surfing legend Sally Fitzgibbons has put her south coast sanctuary on the market for the first time since renovating with Ray White Kiama selling agents Michele and Matthew Lay and a price guide of offers above $980,000.

Sally gravitated toward 169 Charles Avenue, Minnamurra because of its phenomenal outlook, space, and proximity to the Minnamurra River and local beaches.

“The home has been everything I want in one, it offers up all the great elements that I’m attracted to, especially the big back yard which has been ideal for training,” she said. “We are a little like the brady bunch, people are always coming and going, so having that space has been amazing.”

Designed by local architect with a solar passive design and built by Simon Reece, the property includes an array of modern features such as an impressive outdoor shower, and custom board room (not the business kind!) which has been home to Sally’s surf boards. And included in the sale, Sally’s very own training trampoline.

But, according to Sally, the home wasn’t as modern as it presents today. “We set about giving it a total makeover, it was my first go at a renovation and it came out really well. There is really not much left of the original home.”

“The renovation process was crazy, I was a bit younger then and I didn’t realise there was so much that had to go into it. I watched all the renovation shows on TV and thought it was awesome… I can do that!. It was a cool experience and great to have another project to work on.”

Making it easier was the fact that there were no strict guidelines, “I wanted it to have an open feel with a lot of natural light and privacy.”

Which is exactly what she achieved, with her favourite feature of the home the feeling of the new staircase dropping down to the flooring and the beautiful high ceilings.

“I love downstairs,” she said. “I’m really proud of it, and it became my training space, and the gym looking out over the golf course is just awesome. I felt invincible.”

No doubt, the local community would agree, always cheering her on when they see her running or biking through the streets and paddling along the beautiful Minnamurra river for training.

“People see me around and are always giving me some ‘go Sal’s’ or stopping by the beach to have a chat, it’s a great community.”

But, as Sally continues to follow the waves and heads to Hawaii next week to continue her impressive international surfing career, locals won’t have to miss her too much.

“They will still see me running the hills and paddling in the river. I love that river and I don’t intend on going too far.”

In the meantime, Sally is inspired to build her media and marketing business Fitzgibbons International and her brand ‘Live Like Sally’.

You can catch her at Martin Place on Friday 18 December celebrating all things health and lifestyle for the launch of the Sally Fitzgibbons Foundation.

As for 169 Charles Avenue Minnamurra, Sally hopes the next owners will love it as much as she does.

“It will be your own little sanctuary in close proximity to the city.”

And selling agent Michele Lay agrees, “it’s the perfect family home, and it was perfect for Sally. It has lovely state of the art features, and a lot of potential to expand. All in Minnamurra, an area which is just drop dead gorgeous.”

The property, which sits on 852sqm is on the market with Ray White Kiama with all offers above $980,000 considered.
